Detail of nPola

Detail of nPola

Origin of the word,nPola:
* n: stands for "Numerous" including various types of polarity
* Pola: means "Polarity"

Strength of nPola:

nPola LED increases brightness levels ×5 times more than standard LED

"nPola" that increases brightness levels 5 to 10 times over

Dainel sent an email to me on 7th,Dec.2012.He said that wanna use the latest nPola LED which is about x5 Time brighter than standard LED for his project.

Curently, the brightnessof a power chip LED in mass production is arond 100 lumens in warm white but this new product produces 500 lumens which is 5 times better. As an example, when making a LED bulb for a 60W household bulb replacement,generally,10-20 LED packages are used, but when this new product is applied, the same brightness can be achieved with only 1-2 packages.

Seoul Semiconductor CEO,Chung Hoon Lee,expressed strong confidence in the new product by saying "I've worked very hard for te past 20 years in this industry and it is safe to say that this new produc is the culmination of 20 years of core technologies development. It is a major milestone for the LED light source."Professor Nakamura Shuji, known as the father of the LED,wa also present at this event to comment on the new technology. He is currently a professor at the University of California,Santa Barbara and an advisor to Seoul Semiconductor.

In addition to the release of the new product, the event provided booths attendees could experience Seoul Smiconductors core porducts such as its Acrich AC LED technology,UV LEDs,white LEDs,and others.Seoul Semiconductor company said it will immediately begin production of this new product with sales demestically and in strategic markets abroad.

My conclusion is as following:

1. Lab date, No large quantity production used in application.
2. Price is expensive.Reason for nPola LED expensive price is that nPola LED adopts GaN substrate instead of standard sapphire substrate.Price of GaN substrate is expensive and not in large quantity production.

By contacing with Distributor of SSC,get info as follows:

1. nPola LED still get lab date,no exact detail spec. information.
2. Four season of 2013year, they will start trial production for small quantity.
3.  nPola LED is still not fix a price

Mexico Issues New Energy Efficiency Standards for Certain Compact Fluorescent Lamps

Mexico's Ministry of Economy has amended official Mexican standard NOM-017-ENER/SCFI-2008, which sets forth mandatory minimum energy efficiency standards, safety, test methods, sampling, conformity assessment and marking requirements for self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamps. The new standard (NOM-017-ENER-2012) amends the current minimum luminous efficiency requirements for non-covered self-ballasted CFLs from 40.5 to 45 for lamps with power no higher than seven watts, 44.5 to 48 for lamps with power between 7 and 10 watts, 46 to 50 for lamps with power between 10 and 14 watts, 47.5 to 52 for lamps with power between 14 and 18 watts, 52 to 57 for lamps with power between 18 and 22 watts, and 56.5 to 60 for lamps with power higher than 22 watts. The minimum luminous efficiency requirements for covered self-ballasted CFLs has been amended from 31 to 35 for lamps with power no higher than seven watts, 34.5 to 38 for lamps with power between 7 and 10 watts, 36 to 40 for lamps with power between 10 and 14 watts, 40.5 to 46 for lamps with power between 14 and 18 watts, 45 to 48 for lamps with power between 18 and 22 watts, and 45 to 52 for lamps with power higher than 22 watts. The minimum luminous efficiency requirements for reflector CFLs has been modified from 29 to 33 for lamps with power no higher than seven watts and 29 to 33 for lamps with power between 7 and 14 watts. The standard remains at 33 for reflector CFLs with power between 14 and 18 watts and 40 for reflector CFLs with power higher than 18 watts. Colour, anti-insect and ultraviolet radiation CFLs are excluded from the scope of these requirements.

Among other changes, the new standard also establishes a minimum colour rendering index of 77 for covered CFLs. On the other hand, a provision that would have replaced the current requirements on maximum acceptable temperatures with a maximum temperature increase standard has been dropped and the current language on maximum acceptable temperatures has been preserved nearly unchange.

The new standard will enter into force on 10 March, although CFLs certified by a duly accredited certification body to NOM-017-ENER/SCFI-2008 prior to that date will be able to be sold in the Mexican market until product stocks are exhausted.

VDE opened new test center for lighting technology

VDE opened new test center for lighting technology

Photometry and spectrometry are becoming increasingly important for the lighting industry, as with the new developments in lighting technology, there is also a growing demand for transparent evaluation capabilities for the products. Moreover, the LED technology creates new challenges for the industry since – contrary to the light sources commonly used so far – LED technology is asking for new approaches.

Performance properties such as luminous efficiency, service life or luminous flux are becoming essential quality parameters in an ever more confusing market. Moreover, with the ecodesign directive (2009/125/EC), the European Commission is making clear demands on these and other properties.

To meet the demand for independent testing covering all aspects of the performance properties of lamps and luminaires, VDE Institute has opened its test center for photometry and spectrometry for the lighting industry. Thanks to state-of-the-art measuring equipment such as the integrating sphere, high-resolution spectrometers, double monochromators and moving mirror goniophotometer, the VDE experts can measure and evaluate light sources in an area of 300 m², using the latest measuring technology and equipment. The service scope ranges from measuring luminous flux, color rendering index, tri-stimulus value shares and color temperature, through the evaluation of photobiological safety to the recording of the light distribution curve and the spatially resolved measurements of spectral distributions.

The moving mirror goniophotometer, for example, is used to measure the light distribution curve. For this purpose, the light source is attached to the moving mirror goniophotometer with special mounting devices. A 4-C-level scan is then used to decide at which angle resolution the light distribution curve must be measured. For light sources with a narrow-angled or extreme distribution, measurements are carried out in angle increments of 1°, and in increments of 2.5° or 5° for normal distribution. The deciding factors here are the customer requirements and the necessary accuracy.

VDE Institute is a center of competence for LED technologies and as such part of the research project for a Performance Quality Label (PQL). To this end, five research institutions establishments and 13 lighting companies have formed a project consortium. The project objective is to jointly develop standards for LED products and to create a quality mark based upon these standards. VDE Institute participates in this project as a reference laboratory. The Performance Quality Label aims at facilitating the buyers' decision by achieving maximum transparency on the products, and by improving the light quality of the LED lamps at the same time.

Already today, VDE Institute awards the "VDE Quality Tested" mark on the basis of these tests. It comprises all the requirements that must be fulfilled in terms of safety, EMC and performance, and it earmarks high-quality luminaires, lamps and components, allowing for a clear positioning in the market. For the consumer, this ensures a clear distinction of products available on the market.

Among the products tested by VDE Institute are all types of luminaires including LED lamps, LED fluorescent tubes, LED retrofit lamps, LED conversion kits and other LED modules. VDE Institute also offers product testing and certification for energy-saving lamps, ballast devices, sockets, converters for halogen light bulbs and other lighting components.
